Texas Principal Certification
Students who already have a master’s degree can enter this plan to complete the requirements for Texas Principal Certification.
The program provides a foundation in education finance, school law, principal roles and responsibilities and personnel supervision.
You will receive certification after successfully completing the coursework and passing the TExES Principal examination.
Certification ProgramEducational Administration Certification Program
This certification is intended for those who want to pursue careers as school principals at the elementary, middle or high school level.
Our department holds State (Texas Education Agency) and national (NCATE) accreditation.
All courses offered in the plan are delivered in an online format for your convenience.
Most students complete the program in 12 months or less depending on course availability, start date, and number of courses taken during each semester.

When applying for the Principal Certification plan, please use the 5X8 ND Additional Cert application.
- Master’s degree from an accredited university
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 or a 2.75 GPA in your last 60 hours
- Two years of teaching experience in a TEA-accredited school

*To be recommended for certification after completion of the required coursework, the applicant must hold a Texas teaching certificate, and have at least two years’ teaching experience in the Texas public school system or equivalent. Additionally, students must receive a passing score on the TExES Principal exam.

Students enrolled in this certification plan are not eligible for federal student loans. They are eligible for a state funded loan through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board called the College Access Loan and Private Alternative Educational Loans.
