Art Students

Art students at Angelo State University learn to expand their creativity and go beyond the fundamentals of art. Students choose a specialization area—art generalist, ceramics, graphic design, painting/drawing, printmaking or sculpture—but still have a chance to take courses in other art mediums.

Faculty Artists

Our faculty are all practicing artists who have received regional or national recognition. No teaching assistants are used in classrooms, and students get one-on-one attention from professors in a nurturing environment.

Dedicated Facilities

Art students use facilities specifically dedicated to their area of concentration. Specialized studios for graphic design and sculpture are in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, while ceramic students use the state-of-the-art ceramic studio at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Most classes are held in smart classrooms with projectors, computer connections and internet access.

Exhibit Opportunities

Graduating BFA students are invited to showcase their work in Gallery 193, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building. Other students have the opportunity to display their work in exhibition venues across the ASU campus, including the second floor of the Porter Henderson Library, the conference room of the Registrar’s Office, and the office of the College of Arts and Humanities.

Students also benefit from the strong art community in San Angelo. The department assists with the annual National Ceramic Competition held at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of community art projects, and some local art studios display student work.

Interesting Careers

Art students develop technical and artistic skills and learn how to communicate visually, collaborate with others and problem-solve. Employment opportunities for graduates include careers in teaching art, graphic art and design, arts management and studio art, among others.
