  • ASU Receives Donated Scanning Electron Microscope
    March 7 - Angelo State University’s College of Science and Engineering has added ASU’s first scanning electron microscope (SEM), which was recently donated by the Hitachi Ltd. worldwide technology company.

  • Robledo Takes on New Role to Support ASU’s Hispanic Students
    January 16 - Dr. Andrea Robledo, formerly the academic advisor for ASU’s David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering, has been promoted to be the director of STEM HSI programs at ASU.  

  • Engineering Chair Heading NSF Grant Project
    January 5 - Dr. William Kitch, chair of the David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering at Angelo State University, has been tabbed as the lead principal investigator for a project funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the purpose of conducting a regional conference for stakeholders in undergraduate Hispanic science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

  • U.S. Dept. of Education Grant for Engineering Department
    September 26 - Angelo State University has been awarded a five-year, $2.75 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education (DoE) to support the implementation of ASU’s proposed new mechanical engineering program.

  • National Science Foundation Grant for Engineering
    August 29 - Drs. Azadeh Bolhari and Daniel Castaneda of the Angelo State University engineering faculty, along with former faculty member Dr. Alex Mejia, have been awarded a $99,997 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for a new research project on community water quality.

  • Ribbon Cutting Marks Opening of New Engineering Labs
    August 1 - Angelo State University hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the new Hunter Strain Engineering Laboratories on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the main entrance of the new building at 2225 Vanderventer St. on the east side of the ASU campus.

  • Local Builders Pledge Scholarship Endowment
    March 31 - Mike Biggerstaff and Kevin Bond of Sunbelt Construction LLC in San Angelo have gifted $2,500 to Angelo State University to begin a scholarship endowment for ASU’s civil engineering program in the David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering.

    December 9 - ASU’s inaugural class of engineering and pre-engineering majors numbered over 50 for the fall 2015 semester.
